The painting above, ``The Beggar'' is by a Finnish artist, Marcus Collin, completed in 1935. Its topic reflects an aspect of what I am interested in, namely the distribution of economic well-being. The situation depicted in the painting is one which is, of course, of special interest and has great priority: that the resources available to fellow human beings are such that they are reduced to begging.

I am a great believer in the Opensource Software movement. For much of its philosophical roots, see the Free Software Foundation. This mean in practice that I use Linux. The aesthetically pleasing GNOME desktop and associated tools provides me with a nice working environment.
There are many excellent tools for my kind of work. My current statistics favorite is R, I write using emacs and set my texts using LaTeX. Many thanks to the countless authors of these excellent tools!
