Official Publication of the
International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA).
Since its launching in 1978, the journal Fuzzy Sets and Systems has been
devoted to the international advancement of the theory and application of
fuzzy sets and systems. The theory of fuzzy sets now encompasses a well
organized corpus of basic notions including (and not restricted to)
aggregation operations, a generalized theory of relations, specific
measures of information content, a calculus of fuzzy numbers.
Fuzzy sets are also the cornerstone of a non-additive uncertainty
theory, namely possibility theory, and of a versatile tool for
both linguistic and numerical modeling: fuzzy rule-based systems.
Numerous works now combine fuzzy concepts with other scientific
disciplines as well as modern technologies.
In mathematics fuzzy sets have triggered new research topics in
connection with category theory, topology, algebra, analysis.
Fuzzy sets are also part of a recent trend in the study of
generalized measures and integrals, and are combined with
statistical methods. Furthermore, fuzzy sets have strong logical
underpinnings in the tradition of many-valued logics.
The journal welcomes original and significant contributions in the
area of Fuzzy Sets whether on empirical or mathematical foundations,
or their applications to any domain of information technology, and
more generally to any field of investigation where fuzzy sets are relevant.
Applied papers demonstrating the usefulness of fuzzy methodology in
practical problems are particularly welcome. Fuzzy Sets and Systems
publishes high-quality research articles, surveys as well as case studies.
Separate sections are Recent Literature, and the Bulletin, which offers
research reports, book reviews and conference announcements and
various news items. Invited review articles on topics of general interest
are included and special issues are published regularly.

Turkish Journal of Fuzzy Systems.

- Since its introduction to the research community
by Lotfi Asker Zadeh, fuzzy theory has gained a big acceptance in
both academia and industry. In todayÕs world, it is easy to see many
applications of the fuzzy concept in science and industry.
As everything improves, the fuzzy theory and its applications
are also advancing to handle much more complicated
problems of our lives. However, in many cases it is not
easy to distinguish between problems that actually require a
crisp or fuzzy approach in their modeling and solution. Indeed,
the boundary between them is also uncertain.
What types of problems really require modeling
and solution through fuzzy logic? What are these
problems and what is ÒfuzzinessÓ in them? Without properly answering
these fundamental questions, application of fuzzy sets and logic will
probably not be very helpful in solving problems of our lives.
Turkish Journal of Fuzzy Systems (TJFS) will mainly focus on
the determination of problems which can most suitably be
handled through a fuzzy systems approach
(i.e. fuzziness is their fundamental characteristics) and
will provide a unique journal for publishing the recent research
on applications, practices, and methodologies of fuzzy sets and systems.

Fuzzy Logic Book Series
-
Advances in Fuzzy Systems - Applications and Theory
from World Scientific.
- While classical methodology only admits precise descriptions, fuzzy logic
extends to subjective and vague phenomena. It includes the use of approximate
reasoning, by which we model how humans obtain information from imprecise
information. A major goal is to obtain a description of human knowledge and
experience in a way that can be implemented on machines.
The field has come a long way since fuzzy set theory was first propounded
by Lotfi Zadeh in the mid-1960s. Within thirty years, it had developed from
an abstract extension of conventional logic into a field with a whole range
of practical applications. Initially, many of these arose in the field of process
control, with Japan as pioneer. In recent years however fuzzy logic has
found its way into even the commonest household appliances.
Advances in Fuzzy Systems is a series of specialized books aiming
to provide an up-to-date picture of developments in fuzzy logic,
ranging from the strictly theoretical to the latest applications.
Topics covered will include fuzzy mathematical theory, soft computing,
hardware implementations, and industrial applications. Most books in
this series will consist of collections of review articles by acknowledged
experts in their field. Occasional research monographs, textbooks, and
conference proceedings will also appear.
Series Editors: Kaoru Hirota (Tokyo Inst. of Tech), George J Klir (Binghamton Univ.-SUNY),
Elie Sanchez (Neurinfo), Pei-Zhuang Wang (West Texas A&M Univ.), Ronald R Yager (Iona College).
